Milan Petrovic from dev4press.com is undertaking benchmarking different WordPress versions and WordPress plugins. It is quite an undertaking, and some of the first results are already available, where he tested the administration pages across different WordPress versions.
The result is clear: WordPress 2.6.5 loads the fastest, by far compared to the current latest WordPress version (2.8).
But Milan also notes:
I use WP 2.8 on all my blogs right now, but I must say that I am not happy with performance of the administration compared to older versions. Interface IS much better, and to some point I understand and accept that the performance is a trade off for the interface and better work flow.
One of the plugins he has decided to test, is SEO Booster Lite. I am very excited to see the results, and I hope to learn that the plugin is lightingly fast, or to learn where it could need some optimization.

I think seo is really important when it comes to traffic, how else you will get it if you don’t market your site? you may have nice product but no one knows you exist. Unless you have really something extraordinary to offer where people will spread the word quickly.
