How To: Reset Your WordPress Admin Password

I administer quite a few WordPress sites around the internet, and recently I had to make changes to a site, where I had simply lost the password. I tried all the usual combinations, and the e-mail that was registered as the administrator e-mail, I no longer had access to.

So, when you are in this situation, and you cannot remember your password, there are 3 things you can do:

  1. Reset the password using WordPress’ built in system. This require you have access to the e-mail you used to register your blog with.
  2. Using phpmyadmin (or something similar) to manually change the password directly in the MySQL database.
  3. Use the clever little tool created a long time ago, called WordPress Emergency PassWord Reset.

[note]

  1. Unpack the zip.
  2. Upload emergency.php to the root of your WordPress install (the same directory that contains wp-config.php)
  3. Open http://www.yourdomain.com/emergency.php in your favorite browser.
  4. Follow the simple instructions.
  5. When you are done, delete emergency.php off your server. Do not leave it up for someone else to come along and use.

    waiting for ur reply
apprecite it if u reply soon

    thanks

    • Hi nitin

I hope I was fast enough, I am not ALWAYS online, but I try to be :-) I have not tested it on version 2.8, latest version i checked on was 2.7.1, but as far as I can see, 2.8 have not had changes in that area, so it should also work.

REMEMBER to remove the file afterwards, otherwise its a big open welcome mat to people who try to hack WordPress sites.
