WordPress 3.0 Is Coming
A while back the developers of WordPress put up a page for discussing the WordPress 3.0 planned features.
Now that 2.9 is out and it’s time to start thinking about 3.0, we think it would be appropriate to stop and take a breath before diving in, and make a plan in advance.
The discussion was frozen, and they have now released the first beta of WordPress 3.0.
The feature list is quite big, and there is a mix of small and major new features, which will affect the use and automation of WordPress.
Two things which you might have read about before if you follow the WordPress news:
- Bye bye Kubrick. The old default Theme has been replaced with “Twenty Ten”.
Info: Huffington Post did an interview with the Kubrick Developer, and the interview is worth a read: The Secret History of Kubrick, The Blog Theme That Changed the Internet.
Bonus: The guy who made the Kubrick Theme, Michael Heilemann, is Danish like me
- WordPress and WordPress MU Merge
Long awaited, and a popular move has been to integrate WordPress and WordPress MU (Multi User). Although based on the same code base, it was further developed by a different set of developers, and development for both was a pain as a Developer.
With the included functionality from WordPress MU, you can now have a blog network or offer your visitors their own blog, with options you can customize.
There are a lot of feature enhancements, usability changes, interface improvements, too many to list individually, but you can take a look at the feature list if you want to dive into the details.
As a whole the features will enhance the user experience, and will hopefully bring WordPress further out into the world, and increase its user-base.
As a developer I am quite pleased to see some of the things they have been doing in terms of new functionality and I am eager to see what kind of new ideas for plugins that will arise with the new changes added to WordPress 3.0.
The merge of WordPress and WordPress MU is also quite interesting, as it will introduce several more uses for plugins, and options as well as introduce my own plugins to the WordPress MU user base.

cant wait for the final release of WP 3….
